2026 — results expected
The IB has published the final November 2026 examination schedule. The session opens on Friday 23 October 2026 and closes on Friday 13 November 2026— three weeks and one opening afternoon, which makes it noticeably tighter than the four-week May sitting.
Below is every paper, day by day, straight from the official schedule: the full week-by-week breakdown, the exam-zone start times, and the one scheduling quirk that catches French B students out every November. There is also a 12-week study calendar you can anchor to your own final paper.
November 2026 at a Glance
- •Session window: Friday 23 October – Friday 13 November 2026. The 23rd has an afternoon paper only.
- •Dates are identical worldwide. Only start times differ, by exam zone (A, B or C) and sub-zone.
- •English B: Paper 1 and Paper 2 reading on Thursday 5 November (afternoon); Paper 2 listening Friday 6 November (morning).
- •French B sits under “Language B” — Tuesday 3 November and Wednesday 4 November. In November only English and Spanish get their own slots.
- •Results: expected around 16 December 2026, following the November pattern. The IB confirms the exact date closer to the session.
The Fixed Points
When Are the IB November 2026 Exams?
- Fri 23 OctSession opens. Afternoon only — School-based syllabus SL paper 1. No morning exams.
- Mon 26 OctWeek 1 begins. Language A papers, Biology, Business management, Spanish.
- Mon 2 NovWeek 2. History, Language B (including French B), Physics, English, Geography.
- Mon 9 NovWeek 3. Mathematics, Economics, Chemistry, Philosophy, Psychology.
- Fri 13 NovFinal papers — Maths HL paper 3 in the afternoon closes the session.
- ~16 DecResults expected. In November 2025 they reached schools via IBIS from 19:00 GMT on 16 December, with students able to access them six hours later.
Two things worth internalising. First, unlike May there is no scheduled break dayin the middle of the session — May 2026 had 1 May off, November runs straight through. Second, the whole thing is compressed into 16 examination days. If you have a language, a science and a maths, your papers are almost certainly stacked across all three weeks rather than clustered.
For context on cohort size: the November 2025 session saw 23,392 DP and CP students receive results, with a global average of 29.3 points — a smaller and slightly lower-scoring cohort than May, which is normal for the November sitting.

IB November 2026 Exam Schedule: Week by Week
Every paper in the session, in order. Language B rows — the ones English B and French B students need — are highlighted. Durations are the official paper lengths; reading time, where your subject has it, sits on top.

English B & French B
Language B Dates — and the November Quirk
French B students: your dates are not where you expect
In the May session, English, French and Spanish each get their own slots — French B sat separately on 19–20 May 2026. In November, only English and Spanish are scheduled separately from all other languages. French B therefore sits with the generic Language B papers on Tuesday 3 and Wednesday 4 November — two days before English B, not after it. Students who plan from a May timetable get this backwards every year.

Paper 1 and Paper 2 reading pair on the Thursday afternoon; Paper 2 listening lands the next morning.
Our English tutoring covers the same ground for English B, and how to score a 7 in IB English B breaks down each paper.
Remember the Individual Oral sits outside this timetable entirely — it is assessed internally by your school, and contributes 25% of the final grade at SL and 20% at HL.
Local Start Times
Exam Zones: What Time Does Your Paper Start?
The dates above are the same for every candidate on earth. The times are not. Every school is assigned an exam zone — A, B or C — plus a sub-zone based on its UTC offset, and that assignment does not change between sessions. The times below are local, and they do not shift for daylight saving.
| Zone | Morning session | Afternoon session |
|---|---|---|
| Zone A (UTC+12) | 10:00 | 14:00 |
| Zone A (UTC+11) | 10:00 | 14:00 |
| Zone A (UTC+10) | 10:00 | 14:00 |
| Zone A (UTC+9) | 10:00 | 14:00 |
| Zone A (UTC+8) | 09:30 | 13:30 |
| Zone A (UTC+7) | 09:00 | 13:00 |
| Zone A (UTC+6) | 09:00 | 13:00 |
| Zone A (UTC+5) | 09:00 | 13:00 |
| Zone A (UTC+4) | 09:00 | 13:00 |
| Zone A (UTC+3) | 09:00 | 13:00 |
| Zone B (UTC+3) | 10:00 | 14:00 |
| Zone B (UTC+2) | 09:30 | 13:30 |
| Zone B (UTC+1) | 09:00 | 13:00 |
| Zone B (UTC+0) | 09:00 | 13:00 |
| Zone C (UTC-3) | 10:00 | 14:00 |
| Zone C (UTC-4) | 09:30 | 13:30 |
| Zone C (UTC-5) | 08:30 | 12:30 |
| Zone C (UTC-6) | 08:30 | 12:30 |
| Zone C (UTC-7) | 08:30 | 12:30 |
| Zone C (UTC-8) | 08:30 | 12:30 |
| Zone C (UTC-9) | 08:30 | 12:30 |
| Zone C (UTC-10) | 08:30 | 12:30 |
There is no variance in start times within a morning or afternoon session. If you do not know your zone, your IB Coordinator does — ask once, write it down, and never guess again.
Count Backwards
The 12-Week Study Calendar
Anchor this on your last paper and count backwards twelve weeks — that is your start date. For a session ending 13 November 2026, a full twelve-week run begins in the week of 24 August 2026. If you are reading this later than that, compress Phase 1 rather than skipping Phase 2.
| Phase | Weeks | Focus |
|---|---|---|
| 1. Consolidate | 12–9 weeks out late Aug – mid Sept | Audit syllabus coverage subject by subject. Diagnose weak topics with untimed past-paper questions. Finish internal assessment drafts — they should be off your desk before revision proper begins. |
| 2. Past papers | 8–5 weeks out mid Sept – mid Oct | Two to three timed papers per subject per week, each followed by mark-scheme analysis. Keep an error log. For Language B, one Paper 1 text type per week and daily listening in the target language. |
| 3. Execute | 4 weeks out → end late Oct – 13 Nov | Exams begin 23 October. Revise only for the paper in front of you. No new content. Protect sleep — the November session is dense and the last week is maths-heavy. |
A November-specific warning about Phase 3: because the session runs straight through with no break day, the gap between your first and last paper can be three full weeks of sustained exam conditions. Plan recovery into it deliberately — the students who fade are usually the ones who treated week one like a sprint.
Why It Looks Like This
How the IB Actually Builds the Timetable
Worth knowing, because it explains most of the “why is my paper there?” frustration. The IB publishes the principles it schedules against:
- Clashes are minimised using real registration data, not guesswork — the timetable is optimised so the fewest students worldwide hit a conflict.
- Public and national holidays cannot all be respected. The DP runs in too many countries for that to be solvable.
- Regional and cultural links are accounted for where possible. The IB's stated example: Arabic literature and language examinations are not scheduled on a Friday.
- Almost all subjects sit on consecutive days — which is why your Paper 1 and Paper 2 are usually back to back.
- The largest subjects are deliberately spread out, not scheduled consecutively, to distribute workload. Languages and sciences are placed across the weeks for the same reason.
- The schedule is kept as short as possible while holding conflicts to an acceptable level — hence November's compressed three weeks.
And on rescheduling: an examination cannot be moved without authorisation from the Assessment Division at the IB Global Centre in Cardiff. Your school applies on your behalf, and it is granted only in exceptional, documented circumstances. There is no student-initiated route.
Frequently Asked Questions
Ready to Prepare?
You now have the dates. The part that decides the grade is what happens in the twelve weeks before them — and in a compressed November session, the margin for drifting through September is thinner than in May.
Bespoke Learning matches students with IB-trained educators who know these papers: Paper 1 text types, Paper 2 reading and listening technique, Individual Oral preparation, and the exam-day timing that turns a 5 into a 7.
